Sri Malyadri Lakshmi Narasimha Swamy Vari Devasthanam is a from of Narasimha Swamy (avatar of Sri Maha Vishnu) with a temple in Malakonda, Valetivari Palem, Prakasham district, Andhra Pradesh, India. He is the Swamy of Malyadri (Malakonda). A large number of devotees visit the sacred shrine of Lord Lakshmi Narasimha to pay their homage to him. Malyadri is one of the NavaNarasimhas (Nine Narasimhas).

‘Malyadri’ means hills arranged as a garland (mala). It may also be derived from Malaya (Hill in all of the Southern Indian languages). Malayadri means the Range of Hills, denoting their very geologically dominating nature in an otherwise flat plain land of the South Eastern Deccan Plateau. This hill range is also called the Nalla Mala (beautiful hill) range. The range runs north to south. Starting at Vijayapuri a

t the extreme north (Nagarjunakonda Dam) to Tirupati at the southern edge.

At the western edge of Malyadri stands the Ahobhila Narasimha Swamy. At the northwest of Malyadri stands the Sri Sailam. To the south Vrishabhachala kshetram, east side of Malyadri has the Narasimha swamy of Singarayakonda, south side of Malyadri has the Penna River (Pinakini). North side of Malyadri has the Krishna River. All the devotees of Malyadri give their children names related to Sri Malyadri Narasimha, for males, and related to Sri Mahalakshmi for females.

Srimannarayana Swamy is Sri Narasimha’s avatara. He has Sudarshana Chakra in one hand, Shankha in another hand, Sri Mahalakshmi sits in his lap, one hand  surrounds her, and he blesses devotees with one hand. The swamy gives darshana to yakshas, gandharvas, siddhas, and deva munis on six days (Sunday to Friday). The Swamy gives darshan to manavas only on Saturday.

Sri Mahalakshmi Devi

Sri Mahalakshmi Devi is the mother goddess of Malyadri. She is located at the top of the Hill of Malyadri. Here Sri Narasimha Swamy and the Sri Mahalakshmi Devi shower grace upon their devotees.

There are seven Teerthams on Malyadri chain of mountains.

• Varuna Teertham
• Kapila Teertham
• Agasthya Teertham
• Sankara Teertham
• Jyothi Teertham
• Indra Teertham

Sthalapuranam

One day Sri Srimannarayana Murthy was on Seshathalpam (Sesha panpu) and Sri Mahalakshmi was sitting near his feet on Pala Samudram (Ksheera Sagaram / Sea of Milk). He said to her, if you have any thing in your mind tell me, I will do it for you. She said with a smile, “I got you as husband, that is all the blessing I need for my life. But there are very few Divya Kshetras on earth. The multitude of humanity that thirsts for spiritual solace and spiritual instruction has no refuge. So I ask that you must make such a Kshetra for your devotees”.

The swamy accepted the devi’s request. Sri Maha Vishnu asked Vanamala to make a wonderful Parvata (Hill) on earth. Vanamala manifested itself into Malyadri (Malakonda). The range of hills has a wide diversity of flora and fauna. This is a unique environment where a single range of hills has a wide variety of environments. From the arid and the semi arid to the tropical rainforest zone. The hill range has a wide variety of rocks and rock formations not usually seen in a single geological feature. The Seshachala hill range has among the most ancient rock formations on the earth. About a billion years old. Dating to the middle of the Proterozoic period.
